Theoretical knowledge from the course of survey design will be put into practice. Students will first create a questionnaire aimed at researching the barriers that prevent farmers from switching to organic food production. Then students will conduct a questionnaire survey among farmers in different areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina and enter the coded data into an Excel spreadsheet. They will then learn to evaluate data with descriptive data analysis and regression models. Students will prepare a report based on this data

Dates: Monday 6th June 2022- Friday 10th 2022

Lecturer: prof. Ing. Jan Banout, Ph.D.

The processing of organic waste and its subsequent use to enrich the soil with organic matter is one of the key conditions in organic farming. Without the use of farm organic waste, decent yields cannot be achieved in organic farming and at the same time, it is one of the conditions for obtaining certification of organic operation.

During the course, participants will gain knowledge about biological processes in the decomposition of organic matter. The course will focus mainly on various composting technologies. In this context, it will be, for example, composting on the surface in landfills, bioreactor composting, vermicomposting. The course will also discuss the technological parameters of composting (temperature, humidity, pH, C: N ratio, etc.), procedures for optimizing the raw material storage of compost and its application to the soil. An integral part of the course will be the presentation of the positive effects of the application of organic fertilizers (compost, vermicompost) on soil fertility, soil structure and general physical properties of soil.
